Game of Thrones fans find consistent excitement in the unknown, overwhelming uncertainty surrounding plot lines and subsequent on-screen deaths. It is one of the most enticing qualities that the blockbuster TV series possesses. WatchMojo recently ran through their ‘Top 10 Game of Thrones Characters Who Are Definitely Going To Die’, proving how talked about of a topic this is.
With one well-known name already in the grave (no spoilers here, though), we anticipate who could be next with this bite-sized top five list.
5. Cersei Lannister
Cersei has been a prolific, persistent character throughout the six seasons and beyond. Her resolve in coping with the loss of her father, husband and three children has been unrivalled within the show. Despite that, she remains arguably the most detestable character. Plot-wise this should keep her safe, as there appears to be a lack of villains going forward, but her wicked ways could result in comeuppance. The fact is, anyone sat upon the Iron Throne becomes a target. Recent history in that department would indicate a timely demise.
4. Grey Worm
With Daenerys finally crossing the narrow sea to reclaim the Iron Throne, it is obvious that the Leader of the Unsullied will have a huge role to play in the battles ahead. Although no stranger to danger, there are going to be many times when he is in harm’s way. For that reason, he must make the list. Once the siege on Westeros is over, it is likely that Grey Worm won’t have much of a purpose in the plot line.
3. Tormund Giantsbane
Tormund is back across the wall fighting wights and White Walkers, and although he has other deadly characters like The Hound and Jon Snow by his side, he is ultimately in a world of trouble and it could see him meet a pretty gruesome end. Plus, we aren’t too far away from the end of the story here, and with a need for the cast to be whittled down to the barebones, it’s only natural that we begin to lose some of the more obvious types.
2. Sansa Stark
Some characters still have a lot to accomplish as we begin the journey’s end, but Sansa certainly is not one of them. You could argue that her storyline has come full circle already, unlike her Stark namesakes who are continuing natural progressions. Further, her seeming choice to side with Little Finger is an absolute guarantee to land her in trouble as he’s the least trustworthy character on the show. Plus, there’s the little matter of what Maisie Williams may or may not have let slip back in March.
1. Petyr Baelish
The master manipulator simply must get his comeuppance at some stage. His sheer cunningness is bordering on cockiness at this point in the story and it may only be right that Sansa, a character he believes to be his protégé, finally outsmarts him to complete her story arc. Most fans would welcome the event after Baelish handed Sansa over to Ramsay Bolton.
George R.R Martin said it himself, “You don’t get to live forever just because you are a cute kid, or the hero’s best friend, or the hero.” We all know by now that the Westeros is seriously unpredictable, but the very nature of it makes the show one of the most anticipated of the modern era.
